Overview and Background
Combining tried and tested techniques used by the larger malt distributors with our own 30 years’ malting (and engineering) experience, we have designed separate machines for steeping, germinating and kilning, recognising the important differences between the processes and enabling you to optimise each one independently to produce a range of high quality malts - from pale ale to crystal – with a high degree of scientific method and data capture. Our Pilot Plant malting machines are designed for larger scale malting, offering 150–250kg batch sizes - this enables breweries and malting houses to test different grains, recipes and flavours in a controlled, analytical environment.
The machines are available independently or as part of an integrated system and are scalable, so that if increased volumes are required, a total of two steeps and five germinators can provide maximum capacity to each kiln (a total of around 1,250kg per week).
CM250 System
CM250S - Steep
Constructed to high specification in 304 stainless steel, the integrated user-friendly touchscreen control panel allows for easy recipe formulation, and monitoring of the steeping process as it goes on. Program your wet steep and air rest cycles, temperature and timing, and manage the enzyme production with our pilot plant 250kg batch automated system.
Unique features include:
-
Computerised temperature control to within 1° C
-
Flat bottom vessel for even water uptake
-
Removable panels for easy loading of barley and overall cleaning of vessel
-
Each wet can be followed by an air rest where CO2 is removed from the grain
-
Integrated air pump for rousing during steeping
-
Water jacket temperature control
CM250G - Germinator
Constructed to high specification in 304 stainless steel, the integrated user-friendly touchscreen control panel allows for easy recipe formulation, and monitoring of the germination process as it goes on. Program your germination steps, turning and water spray according to your grain and recipe needs, managing the moisture content with our pilot plant 250kg batch automated system.
Unique features include:
-
Computerised temperature control to within 1° C
-
Programmable temperature ramping between setpoints
-
Programmable humidification for aerating the germinating grain
-
Automatic turning following up to 20 operator-controlled programs
-
Easy access and cleaning
CM250K - Kiln
The kiln is often described as the most important part of any malting operation. This is where the process finishes and you produce the kind of malt you need. Our state-of-the-art machines offer greater temperature range and control than any others currently on the market, enabling you to produce a wide variety of malts - including specialty and caramalts – at consistently high quality.
Constructed to high specification in 304 stainless steel, the integrated user-friendly touchscreen control panel allows for easy recipe formulation, and monitoring as kilning goes on.
Unique features include:
-
Computerised temperature control capable of reaching temperatures up to 150° C, what allows production of speciality malts such as Vienna, Munich and caramalts, including crystal
-
Programmable temperature ramping between setpoints
-
Static malt bed for greater consistency
-
Programmable fan-speed control, allowing airflow to be varied
-
Recirculation valve for changing mixtures of air from new to recirculated
-
Heat recovery from outlet air to inlet air
-
Easy access and cleaning
